Goodbye to a fan of Space-Mullet

Hey all,

Sorry there’s no comic today.  On Friday, my wife got a call that her mom was in the hospital, suffering from liver failure.  We’ve been in Wisconsin since then, spending time with family and saying goodbye.  My mom in law has been valiantly fighting stage 4 breast cancer for 5 years, and after having it spread to her liver,  today she went home to be with the Lord.   She went peacefully without any pain, and the whole family was there to see her off.

My mom in law was an amazing person, strong and loving.  When I told her I was quitting my job to be a comic artist, she told me she believed in me and has supported us ever since.  Upon hearing that I was going to be published in Prophet, she was prepared to brave the sketchy local Wisconsin comic store to go buy it, where “there are multiple drug deals a week” happening.   She was actively following Space-Mullet, and “was looking forward to seeing Alphius coming back.”   @#!*% , I wish I had a chance to tell her how it all ended.

So, I’m calling a mulligan for today and Thursday.  I just need some time with family without having to upload any pages.  I will see all you awesome readers on Monday.  Have a great week.  Thank you for taking the time to comment, buy stuff at cons, and be awesome in general.  You’re all wonderful. Your prayers are appreciated, especially from my number 1 gun, supporter, and backbone(my wife).

God bless you,

Epic.

Okay, all, I know I said I would write a little something about C2E2.  It was a total blast.  I was able to sit next to some awesome creators.  Chris Samnee and Rick Remender were 10 feet away from me!  Ramon Perez was right behind me!  I tried not to be star eyed and awkward, but I don’t think it worked too well.  Either way, it was awesome to be around such talent.  Truly inspiring, and all the creators I met that weekend were kind and supportive, so thanks guys!

A bunch of people came up to me to say that they loved Space-Mullet.  THANK YOU.  It’s so great to meet people in person who’ve seen my work.  Your support is awesome!  THANK YOU FOR READING!  Also, thanks to the people who didn’t know Space-Mullet at all, but still stopped to chat and take a few minutes to hear my science-fiction and comic ramblings.  And if you took the time to read it…well…WELCOME!

I did a few commissions other than my zombie portraits, which were super fun.  Thanks to you guys for taking a chance on me!  Here are a few for you to check out:

Garrus, from a fellow Mass Effect fan!

FEAR AGENT!  Awesome!  Hitting an alien with a trusty bottle of Jack…

I did a custom “space pirate” for a fan, it came out pretty darn good!

And last but not least, I did a Hellboy commish for returning customers from Wizard World last year!  Dang, this was fun to draw.  I think it came out awesome:

AND, they went to go meet Ron Pearlman, and got it SIGNED!  Apparently Ron loved it.  YES.

And here are my fave Zombie portraits I did.  First up, zombie Kingpin!  Awesome costume.  This guy is also a new Space-Mullet fan!  Taking over the world!

And, of course, a family dog, eatin’ brains.

I also did a little doodle in a guy’s sketchbook:

I also did an interview with the guys from Comics Remixed.  You can watch it here:

And that’s about it!  Keep your eye out for an announcement about a Space-Mullet online shop…T-shirts, prints, etc.  Coming soon!  Keep reading and enjoy the rest of your spring!

Hey guys…so…C2E2 is tomorrow…and I’ve been doing commissions, getting sick, preparing for the con, taking care of my wife…so no page today.  Or tomorrow.  BUT.  THREE pages next week, starting this SUNDAY EVENING.  Again, sorry for letting you guys down today.  I take my deadlines for this comic really seriously, but I just had no time.

See you Sunday with a new page, and see you earlier if you come to C2E2!  Table R8!

Hey all,

I just finished this piece to be printed exclusively for C2E2 this year.  It will be on sale at my booth for $15.  If you’re nowhere near Chicago, keep an eye out in early May, I’ll be selling/shipping any prints that are left over after the show.  No promises, though!

Some More Fan Art, and Great Artists!

Feb10

Hey peoples,

Happy Sunday!  It’s cold, dark, and rainy here in Chicago, so basically, a perfect comic book reading/art making day.  That being said, we have some more Space-Mullet fan art being done!  I can’t help but share these, because they make me so happy.  First up is Tim Gibson, who has a wonderfully interesting webcomic called Moth City.  Easily unlike anything I’ve ever read before, which is great thing.  He has it set up so that each time you click, a new page, panel, speech balloon, or action happens in the story.  It’s very digital based, and works fantastically with the webcomic element.  Check it out!  Here is his awesome version of Jonah.  Thanks, Tim!

And also, here is some fan art by my very own Cousin, Samuel Johnson!  He’s just 15, and he is AMAZING, especially at digital work.  Check out his DeviantArt page here.  You WILL be impressed.  Thank you, cuz!

That’s all for now!  I gotta go finish inking page 32!
